Reiffers Art Initiatives - "Infiltrées, 5 manières d'habiter le monde" Exhibition

The exhibition invites the five artists to take over the Acacias Art Center - whose new architecture will be revealed on this occasion - to display works that are almost entirely new. Artists who are not content to simply engage with the world, but who work just as hard to reconfigure it aesthetically and conceptually to propose other visions and other ways of making the world, together. At the end of the exhibition, one of them will be awarded the Reiffers Prize. With the support of Mazarine Group and La Mode en Images. 

The artist's works form abstract poems that tell of our relationship with our environment and our ability to make it our own, to reassemble it as much as to sublimate it. Represented by Galerie Balice Hertling, the artist is not content to simply grapple with the world, but works just as hard to reconfigure it aesthetically and conceptually, to propose other imaginaries and other ways of making the world, together. Voted for by the public and the Reiffers Art Initiatives artistic committee, the work of this young American artist living in Paris was singled out for its artistic approach and the sensitivity of its works, which faithfully reflect the tensions shaking today's society.

The exhibition featured works by five emerging women artists from four continents (Africa, America, Asia and Europe), selected by the artistic committee: Meriem Bennani, Han Bing, Binta Diaw, Bianca Bondi and Ser Serpas, the 2023 winner.

Reiffers Art Initiatives, an endowment fund for young contemporary creation and cultural diversity, opened the inaugural exhibition of its mentorship program “NO APOLOGIES” at the Acacias Art Center in October 2021. The exhibition featured work by French artist Kenny Dunkan, under the mentorship of world-renowned artist Rashid Johnson.

It also served as a platform for Kenny Dunkan to discuss the post-colonial heritage of his island. The body itself, a recurring theme for the artist, who never hesitates to use his own black body, was also at the heart of the collection: a fragmented body, diverse and in the making. The title "NO APOLOGIES" ("no excuses") is the artist’s way of adressing the current violence against bodies, whether black, gay, and his refusal to excuse these actions.

Nourished by his exchanges and the advice of the famous Afro-American artist, Kenny Dunkan has proposed an exhibition at the opening of FIAC 2021 in the form of an initiatory journey through monumental and immersive installations, sculptures, videos and photographs, recounted in this exceptional book, which bears witness to a unique creative epic.

Also featured in this issue: a portrait of Pretty Yende, one of the leading South African sopranos of our time, photographed by Fabien Montique; a portfolio of the immense photographer Paolo Roversi, honored by a major exhibition at the Palais Galliera; the meteoric rise of actress and singer Zendaya, the new icon of a generation, currently starring in the second part of Dune; and the revelation of French cinema Nadia Tereszkiewicz, who plays an astonishing role in Stéphanie Di Giusto's film Rosalie, and reveals herself through the lens of Luc Braquet.
